The locality of Milano Marittima originated quite recently: at the beginning of the 1900’s. At that time the touristic development started with the reclaim of many malarial lands and the use of the rail network that linked Cervia with Ravenna.

Milano Marittimo development was strictly linked to Cervia and to a powerful family from Milan, the Maffei’s. The Maffei’s obtained permission from the Town of Cervia to build a seaside residential district with villas, gardens and parks. This place was called Milano Marittima, a name which would have underlined a strong tie with the Maffei family.
Despite the outbreak of the First World War, the tourist development of the seaside resort was not interrupted and continued giving importance to Cervia that in 1927 was named 'Station of cure, stay and tourism'.
During the 30's the development went on without stops. At that time the first grand hotels were built and the construction of other hotels went on during the years of economic boom and continues nowadays.
